PCHS Joins DepEd's 236K Trees Project

Pitogo, Quezon - In a remarkable display of environmental consciousness and community spirit, Pitogo Community High School (PCHS) took center stage as it actively participated in the nationwide tree planting launched by the Department of Education.

Aligned with Memorandum No. 069, Series of 2023, issued on November 17, 2023, the initiative, titled "DepEd's 236,000 Trees - A Christmas Gift for the Children," seeks to foster environmental responsibility among Filipino children.

PCHS, being one of the 47,678 public schools under the DepEd, embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and commitment.

PCHS, nestled in the heart of Pitogo, Quezon, made a significant contribution to the project by planting five trees within its premises.

The school's involvement went beyond the act of planting, extending to a holistic participation that included students, teachers, and even the active support of parents and community leaders.

As part of the school's dedication to the cause, PCHS transitioned to an asynchronous mode of learning on December 6, 2023, as directed by the Department of Education. This allowed the school’s representatives to come together for the tree-planting event.

A total of 20 students representing various school organizations, including the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP), Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP), Supreme Secondary Learner Government (SSG), Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O), and the Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) Organization, actively participated in the tree-planting activity. Joining them were 10 teachers, the SPTA President, and a representative from Barangay.

The event started with a virtual program spearheaded by the DepEd Division of Quezon, setting the tone for the day's activities. Following the hands-on experience of planting five trees, symbolizing their commitment to environmental stewardship and a gift for the children.

Mrs. Rosario M. Bulfa, Officer-in-Charge, delivered a heartfelt message at the conclusion of the event. She encouraged the students to take ownership of the planted trees, emphasizing their role in ensuring a cleaner and happier environment not just for themselves but for generations to come.

PCHS’s exemplary participation in this nationwide initiative reflects the school's dedication to shaping responsible and environmentally conscious citizens, setting a positive example for schools across the country.
